Having a baby is one of the most exciting times in your life. Santa Marta is a recognized leader in obstetrical care. More than 6,000 babies a year are born at the Hospital! We offer a number of programs to make your pregnancy and delivery a healthy, happy event:

During Your Pregnancy

If you are a Medi-Cal patient, you can benefit from a new program for expectant mothers at no charge. It's called the Comprehensive Perinatal Services Program and it provides free nutritional services, health education and psycho-social counseling to improve the outcome of your pregnancy and your chances of having a healthy baby. Ask your doctor how you can enroll or call Santa Marta at the program number above.

Maternity tours are offered twice a month in English and Spanish for all couples delivering at Santa Marta. Day and evening tours are available.

Lamaze classes are provided in English and Spanish, and all couples are encouraged to attend. There is no charge for patients delivering at Santa Marta, for those delivering at other hospitals, the fee is $60.00. Evening classes are available. To enroll, call the program number above.

Periodically, we offer classes on "Infant and Baby Care", "Breastfeeding", 'Exercise During Pregnancy", and other topics. If you would be interested in attending any of these classes, please call us at the program number above.

OB Pre-Admission

Women delivering at Santa Marta Hospital can pre-register during the maternity tours.

Patients paying by cash should pre-register earlier in order to make arrangements with a financial counselor. All hospital fees for cash patients must be paid in full 30 days prior to delivery.

The preferred time to pre-register is Monday through Friday, between 9am. And 5 pm., but we can accommodate early morning and evening registration. Go to the Information Desk in the main lobby and you will be called to admitting as soon as a clerk is available. Your counselor will verify your insurance information to determine if you will be responsible for any portion of your hospital bill. Your time in the admitting department usually will be less than 30 minutes.

Please bring California ID and current insurance/LIMO or Medi-Cal card.

Remember, if your doctor has scheduled any tests for you at Santa Marta, such as an ultrasound, you can save yourself duplicate trips to the hospital by completing your pre-registration the same day!

What to Take to the Hospital

1. Three diapers (two diaper pins if cloth)

2. Waterproof pants

3. Undershirt, Nightgown as well as socks or booties

4. Cap

5. Receiving blanket

6. Outerwear and blanket, depending on the weather

Your Day of Delivery

Your doctor's office and our OB department can provide you with information sheets beforehand, so you will know in advance when to come into the hospital. Learn the danger signals of complications that may Occur during the end of pregnancy and in labor, and know what to do.

A phone call during labor can help you decide when it's time to come to the hospital. During the day, call your physician's office. At night, call the OB nursing number to speak with a Santa Marta OB nurse. She will help you decide when to come to the hospital. You may be able to avoid getting to the hospital too early or too late.

If you arrive at the hospital between 6am. And 6pm., go to the information desk in the main lobby and they will direct you to an admitting clerk. If you arrive after 6pm, enter through the Emergency Department.

C-Section patients should check-in at admitting on the day of their scheduled delivery and follow their doctor's instructions for fasting beforehand. Their pre-operative tests will be done the same day of their surgery.

Fathers can be present during labor and delivery if they have taken a Lamaze or other childbirth class.

Siblings (two years and older only) are allowed to visit if they are supervised by an adult and may view the newborn through the nursery window only. We discourage hospital visits from other children. Please try to keep the number of family members visiting to a minimum so that mother may rest for the brief time she is in the hospital.

Visiting hours for fathers only are 9am. To 9pm. For all other family friends, maternity visiting hours are 1 to 3pm. And 6 to 8pm.

Durante El Embarazo

Usted puede beneficiarse de un programa nuevo para las madres que van a dar a luz, sin costo alguno. Se conoce como el Programa de Servicios Comprensivos Perinatales y provee servicios gratis de nutricion, Educacion de salud, y consejos de psico-social; para mejorar los resultados de su embarazo y las oportunidades de dar a luz a un bebe saludable. Preguntele a su doctor, como puede usted inscribirse o llame a Santa Marta al numero del programa que aparece aqui arriba.

Usted puede visitar el Departamento de Maternidad cuando desee, para recibir una explicacion ofrecida en Ingles y Espaņol; para las parejas cuyo bebe nacera en el Hospital Santa Marta. Para informacion sobre el Dia o la tarde, llame al numero del programa.

Se dan clases de Lamaze en Ingles y Espaņol; y se les recomienda a todas las parejas que participen. No Hay ningun cobro para las pacientes de Medi-Cal; las pacientes que no tienen Medi-Cal deberan pagar $50, si van a dar a luz en el hospital; y el pago es de $60 si van a dar a luz en otros hospitales. Admision Previa al Departamento de Obstetricia

Las mujeres que vayan a dar a luz en el Hospital Santa Marta, pueden registrarse la misma fecha del tour De maternidad del hospital.

Los pacientes que desean pagar en efectivo, deben inscribirse con mayor anterioridad para que puedan Hacer los arreglos necesarios con un asesor financiero. Todas las cuentas del hospital para los pacientes Que pagan en efectivo, deberan ser pagadas 30 dias antes del nacimiento.

El tiempo preferido para la inscripcion previa, es de lunes a viernes, entre las 9am. Y las 5pm.; pero Podemos aceptar inscripciones temprano por la maņana o por la tarde. En el mostrador de informacion En la sala de espera principal y usted sera llamado tan pronto como un empleado(a) le pueda atender. Su consejero revisara la informacion de su Seguro, para determinar si usted sera el responable de cual- Quier porcion de su cuenta del hospital. Usualmente, usted pasara menos de treinta minutos en el Departamento de admisiones.

Traiga por favor su tarjeta de indentificacion del Estado de California y su tarjeta actual del Seguro/HMO O tarjeta de Medi-Cal.

Recuerde que si su doctor le ha programado un examen a usted en el Hospital Santa Marta; tal como un Ultrasonido, llame antes de venir y programe el examen con anticipacion.

Lo Que Debe Traer al Hospital

Tenga su maleta preparada antes que comienze el parto!

PARA LA MADRE: 1. Camisa de dormir o pijama, que se abotonen en el frente.

2. Sosten regular o para mamantar que le puede bien ajustado (brassier).

3. Champu, cepillo para el pelo, peine y cepillo para los dientes.

4. Maquillaje, pasta dental y desodorante.

5. No traiga dinero ni alajas al hospital.

PARA EL PADRE:

1. Los formularios de inscripcion previa al hospital y la informacion.

2. Papeles de la Salud y el Seguro.

3. Monedas para el telefono publico y la lista de los numeros telefonicos para llamar y anunciar el nacimiento.

PARA EL BEBE:

1. Tres paņales (dos ganchos de paņal, si son de algodon)

2. Paņal impermeable

3. Camiseta

4. Camisa de dormir y calcetines o calzado de punto para niņos.

5. Gorra

6. Mantilla

7. Ropa y cobija de acuerdo con el clima.

El Dia Del Alumbramiento

La oficina de su doctor y nuestro Departamento de Obstetricia, pueden darle hojas informativas, para que usted sepa de antemano cuando debe venir al hospital. Aprenda usted las seņales de peligro de las complicaciones que pueden ocurir cerca al termino del embarazo y durante el parto; y sepa lo que debe hacer.

Una llamada durante el parto puede ayudarle a usted a decidir cuando es el momento en el que debe venir Al hospital. Durante el dia llame a la oficina de su medico. Durante la noche, llame al Departamento de Obstetricia para hablar con una enfermera de maternidad del Hospital Santa Marta. Ella le ayudara a Decidir cuando debe venir al hospital. Usted podria evitar venir demasiado temprano o demasiado tarde.

Si usted llega al hospital entre las 6am. y 6pm. , vaya al mostrador de informacion en la sala de espera Principal y ellos le dirigiran a la oficina de registracion.

Los padres pueden estar presentes si han participado en las clases de Lamaze o en otras clases referentes A los partos.

A los hermanos y hermanas (unicamente los mayores de 2 aņos) se les permite visitar solamente si estan Acompaņados por un adulto. Podran observar al recien nacido a traves de la ventana del Departamento De cuidado de Niņos Recien Nacidos. No se permiten las visitas de hospital de otros niņos. Por favor Mantenga al minimo los membros de la familia que visiten, para que la madre pueda descansar durante el Breve tiempo que permanece en el hospital.

Las horas de visita para los papas son de 9am. a 9pm. Para todos los otros familiare y amigos, las visitas son de 1pm. A 3pm. Y de 6 a 8pm.

1. Si usted llega despues de las 6:00pm. Entonces entre por el Departamento de Emergencias.

2. Pacientes de cesaria deberan pasar a registrarse el dia de alumbramiento, habiendo seguido las instrucciones de ayuna de su doctor. Los examenes de pre-sirugia seran hechos el mismo dia de la sirugia.
