Outpatient tests are generally performed Monday through Friday. If necessary weekend appointments
May be accomodated. Before having any test, always advise the technician or physician administering

We are not allowed to give test results directly to a patient. If you are an outpatient, they will be sent to
Your physician; otherwise they will go on your hospital chart. Please ask your physician about test
Results which are usually available within 24 to 48 hours depending on the test performed.
Speak with your physician in advance if you have questions about the reason for the tests ordered.
Remember, short stay surgery patients must come to the hospital three days (72 hours) before their
Scheduled operation to register and have all pre-operative tests performed. Waiting until the day of
Your surgery to have tests performed may result in delay or cancellation of your operation.
Lab Tests
Laboratory hours are 8am. to 5pm., Monday through Friday, for outpatient blood and specimen tests.
No appointment is necessary.
For most outpatient lab procedures, it is optimum to fast for 12 hours ahead of time from food and
Liquids, including coffee and tea. Water can be taken at any time, unless you are scheduled for
Surgery that same day. Ask your physician for further instructions if you have questions about your
Ability to fast.
Bring your lab order to the registration/admitting department for processing. You will then be sent
Directly to the lab where blood or specimen can be taken. Generally, your time in the lab will require
No more than 15 to 20 minutes.
Radiology and Imaging
The radiology department is open to serve outpatients from 7am. to 4 pm., Monday through Friday.
All radiology tests require an appointment and some require fasting or other preparation. Call the

Santa Marta's radiology department offers a complete range of X-ray and imaging services. Exams

Cardio-Pulmonary Test
The cardio-pulmonary department is open to serve outpatients Monday through Friday from 6am. to 6pm.
There are three exams, often ordered before outpatient surgery, which can be done without an appointment
In the cardio-pulmonary department. They are EKG (electrocardiogram), ABCID (arterial blood gas), and spirometry (basic respiratory measurement). All other cardio-pulmonary tests require an appointment. If you are unable to keep a scheduled appointment, please call the department as soon as possible at (323)

Some tests, such as treadmill stress testing, require fasting Please call the department for instructions.
The cardiopulmonary department is ready to serve you with a full array of outpatient and inpatient exams:

6. Ultrasonido.
El departamento esta abierto de lunes a viernes, de 6am. a 6pm., para los pacientes externos.
Hay tres examenes que se ordenan con frecuencia antes de una cirugia para un paciente externo; las
Cuales se realizan sin una cita en el departamento. Estos son el EKG (electrocardiograma), el AB (gas de la sangre de las arterias) y espirometria (medida de la capacidad pulmonar). Todos los otros examenes
