Santa Marta Hospital provides a high quality short stay surgery unit that allows patients to be admitted in the morning, undergo surgery, and be discharged on the same day. Thousands of patients benefit from this unit each year.
Before your surgery
A nurse will call you prior to your surgery to give you pre-operative instructions.
If you are having outpatient surgery, you must go to Santa Marta seven days prior to your operation to have all lab, X-ray and other tests performed. Bring with you any orders the doctor gave you. Waiting until the day of your surgery to have tests done may result in the delay or cancellation of your operation.
If you have any change in your physical condition, including a cough or a cold, please contact your physician at once. It may warrant the postponement of your surgery.
If transportation is needed to and from the hospital you can call (323) 260-8624, 24 hours before to arrange transportation.
Diet - Anesthesia
Your physician will decide whether you are to have local or general anesthesia. If a general anesthetic is
Necessary, the services of an anesthesiologist associated with the hospital will be used. If you are having a
GENERAL or LOCAL anesthetic, you must;
Have nothing to eat after 12 midnight, the night before the surgery.
Have nothing to drink (including water, tea, coffee, mild or chewing gum) after midnight.
Have nothing to eat or drink before coming to the hospital.
Your surgery may be postponed to another day if you eat or drink. Eating or drinking will cause
Aspiration during surgery causing serious injury to you.
The day of the Operation
On the day of your operation, arrive at the admitting office, off the main lobby 2 hours before your schedule operation. (If your operation is scheduled for 9:30 AM, you must check - in at 7:30 AM)
Remember to bring your registration forms with you. After registration, you will be directed to the short stay surgery unit. The hospital will provide you will a hospital gown. Please leave jewelry, money and

After Surgery
After surgery, you will be taken to the recovery room for 30 minutes to one hour, depending on the type of

At Home
It's not unusual to feel somewhat dizzy or sleepy for several hours following an operation. Follow your doctor's orders for medications, activity and diet. Do not hesitate to call your physician if you experience any difficulty at home.

ANTES DE LA CIRUGIA
Una enfermera le llamara antes de su cirugia para darle las instrucciones antes de su operacion. Si usted va a recibir cirugia como paciente externo, a venir al Hospital Santa Marta siete dias antes de su operacion, para que le hagan todos los analisis de laboratorio, rayos X, y otros examenes. Por favor traiga con usted
Todos los documentos que el doctor le dio. Su operacion puede ser aplazada o cancelada, si usted espera hasta el dia de la cirugia, para hacerse los examenes.
Si su condicion fisica cambia de cualquier manera. Pongase en contacto inmediatamente con su medico, aunque sea solamente to o catarro. Esto podria justificar el que se le aplace su cirugia.

DIETA - ANESTESIA
Su medico determinara si usted deberia anestesia local o general.
Se emplearan los servicios de un anestesiologo ascoiado con el hospital, si usted requiere de un anestesico general, si va a recibir anestesia GENERAL o LOCAL, usted debera:
No comer nada despues de la medianoche antes de su cirugia.
No beber nada (incluyendo agua, te, café, leche o goma de mascar) despues de la medianocho.
No beber ni comer nada antes de venir al hospital.
Su cirugia podria ser aplazada si usted come o bebe cualquier cosa.
Esto puede causar aspiraccion durante la operacion y causar serias complicaciones.
EL DIA DE SU OPERACION
Llegue dos horas antes de su cirugia programada, a la oficina de admision, ubicada en la sala de espera (Si su operacion esta programada a las 9:30 a.m., usted deberia registrarse a las 7:30 a.m.). Recuerde que debe traer los formularios de inscripcion.
Despues de su admision se le dirigira a la unidad de cirugia de estancia corta. El hospital le dara una bata a usted. Por favor deje su dinero y objetos de valor en su casa, ya que no podemos ser responsables en guardar esos articulos. No use esmalte para las uñas, ni maquillaje.
DESPUES DE LA CIRUGIA
Despues de su cirugia, usted sera llevado a una sala de recuperacioin, donde estara bajo observacion, por 30 minutos o una hora, dependiendo en el tipo de anestesia que le haya sido administrado. Despues sera llevado nuevamente a la unidad de estancia corta por 4 horas aproximadamente. Se le daran liquidos,
Galletas, sopa o jugos, de acuerdo con las instrucciones de su doctor.
Si usted tiene algun problema o alguna reaccion a la cirugia o a la anestesia, podria ser admitido al hospital por su medico, para mas observacion. Al tiempo de la salida del hospital, sus instrucciones de la salida seran dados en escrito, sus instrucciones consisten de cuanta actividad puede hacer, dieta, medicinas (si lo necesita) y su visita proxima con el Doctor o cirujano.
Las leyes Federales requieren que todo paciente que haya recibido cirugia de estancia corta, sea dado de alta bajo el cuidado de un adulto responsible. Si usted nuestro servicio de transporte de cortesia o un taxi, debe hacer arreglos para que un adulto le acompañe en el viaje del hospital a su casa.
CUANDO LLEGUE A CASA
No es algo fuera de lo comun sentirse algo mareado/mareada o sonuento por varias horas despues de una operacion. Siga las instrucciones de su doctor en cuanto a las medicinas, la actividad y la dieta. Llame a su medico si usted tiene cualquier problema medico en su casa.
